This speech from TED.COM by
Leymah Gbowee has been a true inspiration to me in what I want for my career. The speech is entitled Unlock the intelligence, passion, greatness of girls. In the speech Leymah speaks about
the struggle and plight of young African women. She discusses the troubled
state of their villages and how their hopes, dreams, and potential become
buried under the situations that plague their community.
Leymah speaks about her
struggle with the feeling of failure. As she speaks of such feeling I think about
me. My thoughts that sometimes I’m just not where I want to be in my career or
what legacy will I create through my success. Leymah speaks on how her feeling
at her lowest with a sense of failure motivated her to create a revolution of
change. Change to create an environment where women like her can have a chance
at peace and making their dreams and wishes come to fruition.
This really made me think.
What is it that I really want from my success? What can I do in my career to
unlock the intelligence, passion, and greatness of those around me? I then
thought about Leymah and what she really did. She didn’t just create and
opportunity and she didn’t just dream for herself. She let her dreams be for
others so that as she rises up others were able to rise with her. And that’s
what I truly want out of my career and the company I wish to establish. I want
to make dreams come true and I want to rise to a point that I can ben a
opportunity for others to rise to their potential. I want to unlock the great
things that some may never know they embodied. I want to help the entertainment
industry pay it forward.
